**This is the other book I would recommend you buy early on since I reference it often. It is practical, easy to understand guidebook to learning EFT. Great chapters on Attachment Injury Repair (affairs), addictions, and EFIT too. (This book also has videos that go along with the teaching if you want more help.)

This is the recent classic by Dr. Sue Johnson, with great chapters on EFIT (2!), EFFT, and EFCT. It also has great information on the EFT Tango, so I might reference this as well (pp.54ff). To check out her supplemental follow-up text on using EFT with individuals, explore her Primer on EFIT!

Cycle Homework #1 for Couples - Session #5:

1st of 2 homework sheets to give couples to help begin to get clear on their negative cycle; uses prompts; have them do this 1st, and each independent of other (not show, then in session you could facilitate them taking turns to share their responses to the other). They complete 1 & 2 on their own at home and bring back after their individual session. Them sharing these becomes the bulk of 5th session as you assess their cycle. (Watch this video to learn more about using sheets with couples.)

  • In case you are wondering, Sessions 1 & 2 are both partners together (with you doing the Couple Initial Assessment - Forms A & B - found on the Therapist-Only Resources page) (ask me for the password!), sessions 3 & 4 are individual sessions assessing their respective attachment histories, etc. (Forms C & D), and from session 5 onward, we meet with them together.

Cycle Homework #2 for Couples - Session #5

2nd of 2 homework sheets to give to couples to begin to get clear on their negative cycle; is a narrative; have them do this after the other sheet (on their own at home). In the 5th session, have them take turns sharing their responses with their partner (both sheets, thoroughly, no omitting). (Watch this video to see more on this.) (I recommend getting copies in advance so you have them in front of you as they share.) After Partner A shares both with Partner B in session, could ask, “Any surprises?” to Partner B. Then have Partner B share theirs with Partner A. Same process.

The Sheet YOU use when going over their Cycle Homework:

Use this as you assess their negative cycle and write the parts in the appropriate spots to help you get clear. The couple benefits from a copy afterwards as well. (It could take 2-3 sessions to get fully clear.)

Conducting EFT Online:

There are some great resources on the Central PA EFT Community website, so what follows are numerous links to those pages. (I know those resources are solid since I developed that website myself and only put trustworthy resources there.) So, check these out:

  • Resources for Therapists (Explore the great books (including Sue’s new primer on EFIT!), videos, tools for leading Hold Me Tight workshops, and much more!)

  • EFT Boost Videos (a series of brief videos meant to provide a boost to your EFT… created by Certified EFT therapists for EFT therapists!)

  • Resources for Couples, Individuals, and Families can be found on that website too. Just go to the top menu bar, look at the far right, and click on the category you are seeking (including drop down tabs). Send your clients there too! There are great books, videos, and workshops for them all!

Remember to check out the “Learn EFT” page as well on this website for SPOTLIGHTED trainings, links to search a variety of EFT trainings, and videos on many key topics in EFT. Let these help you Learn EFT!

And if there is a topic you are wanting a resource for, reach out and I’ll do my best to help you find one!

The Story of the Weeping Camel:

This is a beautiful video of attachment in nature and how a Mongolian community came around a Mama camel and her baby when it was in Failure to Thrive and not nursing. Watch this video and notice how the camel singer attuned to the Mama. As she and the community supported the Mama, the Mama was able to relax and send signals to the baby that helped the baby come, get re-regulated and have it’s needs met too. Notice there was some protest in the Mama at first, and even for the baby, but the singer continued attuning to the Mama and the natural attachment system kicked in as they felt soothed, safe, and supported.

There are lessons here for the parents we support and for us as therapists! We need our community behind us to help us, and a safe someone (our partner, therapist, etc.) to tune in to us. And as we can center and get soothed, we can tune in to our clients and our children and provide what they need as our caregiver intent and parental heart are more clearly communicated.
